The Director of Public Prosecutions (DPP), Mr. Renson Ingonga, CBS, OGW, today hosted a delegation from the International Justice Mission (IJM) led by Country Director, Mr. Vincent Chahale.
The meeting served as a platform to reflect on the existing collaboration between the Office of the Director of Public Prosecutions (ODPP) and IJM, while exploring new areas of partnership aimed at strengthening the criminal justice system.
The DPP acknowledged the longstanding cooperation with IJM, which has supported critical initiatives including capacity building for prosecutors, policy development, and the enhancement of justice mechanisms to improve outcomes for victims and witnesses.
He further encouraged IJM to continue its sensitization efforts on the Decision to Charge (DTC) guidelines, with a focus on the North Eastern and Nairobi Central regions.
Looking ahead, the DPP proposed expanded areas of collaboration such as supporting community dialogue forums across various counties, promoting staff wellness and mental health initiatives, and conducting joint trainings with investigative agencies on key issues including enforced disappearances, extrajudicial killings, and police excesses.
These initiatives, the DPP emphasized, are vital in building a trauma-informed prosecution service.
In response, IJM commended the ODPP’s professionalism in case handling and reaffirmed its commitment to strengthening its partnership with the office.
