The Director of Public Prosecutions, Renson Ingonga, CBS, OGW this afternoon held a consultative meeting with council members of the Law Society of Kenya (LSK), led by its President, Charles Kanjama SC, to deepen collaboration in the administration of justice. The meeting aimed to formally introduce the council, reaffirm longstanding institutional ties, and create a platform for dialogue on critical issues affecting Kenya’s justice system and legal profession.
In his remarks, DPP Ingonga congratulated the new LSK leadership and emphasized the importance of sustained cooperation between prosecutors and the bar. “The relationship between the ODPP and the LSK remains central to the effective dispensation of justice in our country,” DPP Ingonga said. “We are committed to strengthening this partnership to ensure a justice system that is safe, fair, and efficient for all Kenyans.” Kanjama welcomed the engagement, noting that it came at a critical time when collaboration across justice sector institutions is increasingly necessary.
“This engagement reflects our shared responsibility to uphold the rule of law and safeguard constitutional rights,” Kanjama said. “The LSK looks forward to a more structured and impactful partnership with the ODPP.” He also commended Ingonga’s leadership at the ODPP, particularly in embracing technology to modernize prosecutorial processes.
“The digitization of charge sheets and the integration of technology in case management have significantly enhanced efficiency and timeliness in the delivery of justice,” Kanjama added. “These reforms are already yielding tangible benefits for both practitioners and the public.” Discussions during the meeting focused on several key areas, including the protection of constitutional rights, the rule of law, and the handling of public interest litigation and protest-related offences. Both sides also explored the possibility of establishing a joint LSK–ODPP research and policy unit to support evidence-based reforms in the justice sector. The two institutions further deliberated on enhancing joint capacity building and professional development initiatives, as well as formalizing structured engagements to improve coordination and information sharing.
