The Director of Public Prosecutions, Renson Ingonga, CBS, OGW, who is also the President of the Africa Prosecutors Association (APA), has called for stronger prosecutorial cooperation, institutional development and a coordinated continental response to emerging and transnational crimes.
DPP Ingonga made the remarks today when he officially opened the APA Strategic Committee Meeting in Nairobi, bringing together technical experts from member states to deliberate on the future direction and institutional growth of the continental prosecutorial body.
In his remarks, the DPP welcomed members to Nairobi and noted that the meeting comes at a defining moment for the Association as it seeks to chart the next phase of its institutional development.
“We meet at a defining moment for our Association, an opportunity to reflect on our institutional journey and, more importantly, to collectively shape the next phase of APA’s growth,” said DPP Ingonga.
The DPP highlighted APA’s significant contribution over the years in promoting prosecutorial cooperation, professional exchange, capacity building and coordinated responses to transnational and emerging crimes across Africa.
A key agenda of the meeting is the development of the APA Strategic Plan 2027–2031, which will provide a forward-looking roadmap for the Association’s programmes, partnerships and institutional development over the next five years.
The Strategic Committee will also consider proposed amendments to the APA Constitution, aimed at strengthening the Association’s governance structures, institutional effectiveness and long-term sustainability.
DPP Ingonga urged members to approach the deliberations with openness, ambition and a shared sense of responsibility, emphasizing that the decisions reached should position APA as a stronger, more responsive and sustainable continental institution capable of addressing the evolving needs of prosecution authorities across Africa.
He expressed optimism that the meeting would deliver practical outcomes that deepen prosecutorial cooperation and advance the collective commitment to justice, accountability and the rule of law across the continent.
