Committee members on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Refugee Protection

The ODPP Mwingi Sub County on 5th December 2025 participated in a one-day workshop on Sexual and Gender-Based Violence (SGBV) and Refugee Protection, organized by the Refugee Consortium of Kenya at Mwingi Cottages Hotel.

The workshop aimed to enhance the capacity of Court Users Committee members to address SGBV and strengthen mechanisms for refugee protection.

The training covered critical topics such as an overview of SGBV, legal frameworks on gender-based violence and refugee protection, referral mechanisms, judicial perspectives on SGBV cases, and a victim-centered approach to ensure dignity and justice for survivors.

The event brought together diverse stakeholders, including judicial officers, the DCC Mwingi Central, and prosecution counsels led by Mr. Ombaki Machogu; police officers; probation officers; children’s officers; medics; LSK representatives; religious leaders; and others, fostering a multidisciplinary approach to tackling SGBV and supporting refugees.
