ODPP launch its Strategic Plan 2023-2027

Director of Public Prosecutions Renson Ingonga, CBS, OGW on 4th December 2024 received the Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki for the official launch of ODPP Strategic Plan 2023-2027 as the Chief Guest.

The Strategic Plan launched aligns with Kenya’s long-term development strategy as outlined in the Vision 2030, the Medium-Term Plan I, and the Bottom-Up Economic Transformation Agenda, as well as reflects our renewed commitment to ensuring a just, independent and people-centered prosecution service.

This ODPP Strategic Plan 2023-2027 serves as a comprehensive roadmap that outlines our vision, mission, goals, objectives, and key initiatives for the coming years.

This strategy, which is based on a thorough review of the internal and external environments as well as stakeholder expectations, is intended to guide our efforts to improve the effectiveness, efficiency and performance of the prosecutorial mandate.

It identifies seven strategic issues, including prosecution performance and quality assurance mechanisms; funding and resources; terms and conditions of service; human resource capacity development; inter-agency collaboration and cooperation; organizational effectiveness, infrastructure, and work environment; and policies and guidelines implementation.

The DPP reiterated that the ODPP will vigorously undertake prosecution of corruption and economic crimes cases. The ODPP has to date successfully prosecuted the following individuals for corruption and economic crimes-related offences:- James Humphrey Oswago (CEO); Wilson Kiprotich Shollei; Independent Electoral and Boundaries Commission, Eng. Peter Mangiti, and 25 others (National Youth Service/Ministry of Planning & Devolution); Embakasi South constituency Development Fund (CDF) manager Peter Mukhanji and his wife; and former Samburu Governor Moses Lenolkulal.

The DPP committed to prosecute and expedite cases relating to murder, especially femicide and gross violation of human rights by law enforcement authorities against individuals or group amongst others.

Deputy President Prof. Kithure Kindiki urged the prosecutors to carry out their functions fairly, impartially, and objectively; to respect and protect human rights; to ensure that the criminal justice system operates as expeditiously as possible and to abstain from discrimination on any grounds; and to ensure equality before the law.

The host DPP Renson Ingonga witnessed the Guest of Honour Prof Kindiki plant a tree during the launch of the ODPP Strategic Plan, symbolizing growth and sustainability as we forge a path toward justice and accountability.

ODPP Strategic Plan 2023-2027 was produced through the support of United Nations Office on Drugs and Crime (UNODC) with the financial support of European Union In Kenya.
